Jordan Research Excellence Award

Purpose

Recognize applied research that has been tested in real conditions and measurably improves products, processes, safety, or sustainability in Jordan’s detergents/home-care/personal-care industries.

Objectives

Encourage the Jordanian scientific community to participate in research that advances the detergent and personal care industry.
Promote collaboration between industry, academia, and startups, and transfer research to the market.
Highlight Jordan as a regional center for practical innovation and scientific research.

Scope

Projects that advance formulations, processes, testing, packaging, or compliance and are validated with data:

New surfactant, enzyme/biotech actives, fragrance encapsulation, allergen-aware or sulfate-free systems, preservative optimization, skin-mildness improvements.
Reduced energy/water, faster batching, continuous mixing, waste minimization, yield gains.
Sustainability & Green Chemistry: renewable/bio based inputs, biodegradability, micro plastics reduction, refill systems, recycled/compostable packaging, LCAs.
Stain removal, malodor control, long-lasting scent, low-temperature wash efficacy, dermatological benefits

Award Categories
To ensure fairness across different innovators, entries compete in one of three categories:
Academic & Startup Applied Innovation
(For universities, research centers, and startups that have developed research with proven application potential in detergents, home-care, or personal-care industries)

Industry-Led Innovation

(For manufacturers, suppliers, and private-labelers in Jordan demonstrating applied improvements in products, processes, safety, or sustainability).

Young Researcher Award

(For individual applicants aged ≤ 30 years or postgraduate students leading applied research projects with measurable relevance to the sector).

Winners

One overall Grand Winner and up to one Winner per category.

Ineligible

Purely theoretical studies without application data.
Works already awarded at DETEX.
Projects with unresolved IP disputes; promotional claims without test evidence.

Eligibility

1. Universities, research centers, and startups developing solutions relevant to Jordan’s market.

2. Industrial companies registered in Jordan (manufacturers, private-labelers, raw- material/packaging suppliers).

3. Joint submissions (industry + university/startup).

4. The applicant must be Jordan-based; international collaborators allowed.

5. Work must be applied research that has undergone testing under real or simulated industrial conditions (lab, pilot, or plant trials), carried out within the last five years, with preference for projects demonstrating results in the past 24 months.

Evaluation Approach

Blind Desk Review: anonymized review of written submissions by the Scientific Committee.
Technical Validation: deeper review of data; may request samples, raw data, SOPs, or third-party test reports.
Pitches: finalists deliver a 7-minute pitch + 5-minute Q&A to the jury.

Jury

Jury: 3 members from industry R&D, academia, standards/testing bodies, and regulatory experts.
Conflict of Interest Policy: members must declare interests; conflicted jurors are recused from scoring those entries.
Data Handling: non-public data stays confidential; finalists may be asked for redacted materials for public use.
