Türkiye is home to one of the
world’s richest and rarest endemic flora. Anatolia alone has more endemic
plants than all of continental Europe combined. In this section of the
‘Endemics of Türkiye’ project, we focus on the sensorial characters of Türkiye’s
endemic plants. Our aim is to study the olfactory characters of endemic plants
that can only be observed in their native habitats, across Anatolia as the
project continues in various regions. In addition to this, we also aim to
document the olfactive profiles of these endemic plants to the fragrance
industry in the name of science by conducting creative and innovative studies
based on analytical data.
As part of the project, one of the
endemic plants we studied is ‘Sideritis
albiflora’.
We analyzed this endemic plant in its natural habitat in the Muğla
region of Türkiye, through this analytical method to measure its emitted
volatile compound mixture and recreate its particular scent. We present an
exclusive kit offering a sensorial experience, inspired by this endemic plant’s
olfactive profile.
